The little diver that could
Senior Wilson has been a committed member of the swim team for all four years, but this year she decided to also tackle the dive team. Throughout the season Rachel was able to master about 12 dives and took third place in the JV conference meet.
Being in swimming for three years, Wilson wanted wanted to also try something new for her senior year. Wilson was one of two girls on the dive team this year, which provided her with more one on one time with the coaches.
“For someone going into diving their senior year, it can be a little freaky. I didn’t think I was going to be able to do half the dives I learned,” says Wilson
Wilson the hardest dive was the reverse dive–this dive requires Wilson to jump off forwards and dive backwards. She said she had the hardest time with going backwards in dives. Wilson went through a couple meets before learning a reverse flip instead of the reverse dive. She says it is now one of is now one of her favorite dives.
“ I spent the entire season perfecting my inward dive. finally in my last meet i landed completely straight in the water,” says Wilson.
Wilson also participated in pole vault on Track and Field team for four years. To brush up on her skills, Rachel attended a training camps throughout the year to get stronger.
“I definitely would recommend during diving for other girls, It was an amazing and extremely fun experience,” says Wilson.
Through she says being on the team was a great experience, Wilson does not want to continue with it during her college career.
