Melting the Blues Away

As the grayed piles of slush melt away and the sun stays out past 6 o’clock, Arrowhead students are getting excited for spring weather and activities. With sports like baseball, tennis, and track starting up, students can’t help but feel spring in the air.

Elizabeth Leslie, an Arrowhead senior, says she prefers the warm weather of spring over the bitterly cold days Wisconsin winters are famous for.

“Now that it’s warm outside, I can play softball. We have tryouts for the next three days, and if I make the team, I have practice every day, so I like it more if it’s nice outside,” she says.

Leslie says her favorite season is fall because it’s kind of chilly but still nice, and it’s also football season and the start of school and new activities.

She also says she enjoys spring because it’s like a new beginning, much like fall is when school begins.

“I like how it’s not winter anymore, and everything’s starting to bloom again, so it’s more beautiful outside,” Leslie says.

She says she likes to spend time outside while the warm weather lasts doing things like going on runs and walks around the neighborhood, doing homework outside, opening windows around her house, and driving with the windows down.

Leslie says she isn’t going anywhere for spring break because she has softball events, so she’s glad that it’s warmer, so she can enjoy it more.

Much like Leslie, Emily Landry, also an Arrowhead senior, says she prefers warm weather, so she can enjoy sports and outdoor activities.

“When it’s warmer out I get to play tennis with my brother and my friends,” she says.

Landry says her favorite season is summer because school’s out, and she gets to go on vacation, go swimming, and take her dog on walks.

“I like it better now that it’s warmer because I don’t have to wear as many coats and heavy layers when I go outside, and I can enjoy the sunshine and play tennis,” Landry says.

She says she is also not going anywhere for spring break, but she is going to New York over the summer, so she’s thankful for the warm weather.

Landry says the warmer weather gets her excited for all of the upcoming spring and summer activities like spring break, prom, and graduation.

“I’m glad the weather has been warmer lately because I’m hoping to spend a lot of my spring break on the tennis courts with my brother,” she says.

Landry also says the warm weather has made her senioritis even worse, and she can’t wait to graduate and enjoy the summer before going off to UW-Whitewater in the fall.

“The warm weather means longer days, fun nights, and a lot of memories to be made,” Landry says.
