Arrowhead to Play Bay Port Friday

The 2014 WIAA Division 1 Football semi-finals will be taking place on November 14th, 2014 at approximately 8pm. The two teams playing will be Arrowhead Union High School and Bayport High School, located in Green Bay.

The game will take place at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

“We love playing in college stadiums. Of course, we’re hoping we get the support of our fans–it really does change the way the team plays–but the location doesn’t matter too much,” said Coach Malling.

The winner of the game moves on to state final; the loser will go home and prepare for next season.

Head coach Greg Malling says, “I’d say [there is] less pressure at this point. The [AHS] team has been in this situation before and knows how to approach it. It’s exciting to have so much riding on one game, and the team has learned to deal with that.”

Arrowhead defeated Mukwonago 28-10 at Arrowhead Stadium on November 7. Bay Port defeated Appleton North 43-12 on November 7 as well.

Although many spectators felt the weather was chilly, the players did not seem to be affected by it.

Malling says, “ Cold is good, windy is great. We’ll take raining locusts if it means we get to keep playing.”

At the other side of the WIAA tournament bracket, Marquette will play Kimberly three hours prior to the Arrowhead/Bay Port game.

Both Bay Port and Arrowhead finished number one in their respective conferences. Ironically, the same holds true for Marquette and Kimberly. The state game will be held on Friday November 21, 2014.
