Arrowhead Boys Gear Up for High Pressure Games
The Arrowhead Football team is preparing for their second playoff game against Rufus King this Friday, October 31st, at 7 o’clock played at Taraska Stadium.
The Warhawks defeated Riverside last week in a blowout game with a final score of 51-27.
If the boys pull out a victory this Friday, they will advance to the third round, one game closer to the championship game at Camp Randall on November 21st.
The team is lacking some helpful players on the roster this season, according to. Sebastian Luksich, a senior wide receiver, has been out with a knee injury for the past six weeks and will not return for the end of the season.
“It hurts us to have Sebastian out, but we just need to continue playing,” says senior outside linebacker Michael Tanke.
Although lacking a player, the boys are not lacking the talent says Tanke.
Ben Bredeson, a junior offensive lineman on the team, has received offers from Division 1 schools throughout the country. He says he hasn’t decided where he wants to pursue his career after he graduates.
Right along side Bredeson on the offensive line is junior Mike Olsen. Bredeson and Olsen make key plays together to protect their quarterback Johnny Duranso, allowing Duranso to make plays to his wide receivers.
Senior Andy Hessler middle linebacker is another important role in the Warhawks success. Hessler says he takes his senior leadership role seriously. He is often seen on and off the field supporting and encouraging his fellow teammates to do their best.
As well as supporting his teammates, Hessler says he is making important plays on the field to help his team to get a victory each game.
The road to state is never an easy task, but the boys are focused and are practicing harder than they have all season.
There is no favorite to win the Division 1 State Championship this year, unlike in years past, the title is up in the air for anyone to grab and the boys have their eyes on the prize.
