Duranso Out for the Season?
On September 19th, the Arrowhead High School Varsity football team suffered a loss of 16-13 to the Mukwonago Indians, but an even greater loss was the injury of starting quarterback, junior Johnny Duranso.
Duranso says he suffered a high ankle sprain during the Mukwonago game.
According to the American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Association, high ankle ligaments are connected to the tibia and fibula. High ankle sprains occur when there is twisting or tearing done to the ligaments.
According to Duranso, he was running on the field when he “felt a sudden twist.”
According to Physioworks, a typical recovery time for a stage 1 injury is 4-6 weeks; whereas the recovery time for a stage three high ankle sprain is 12 weeks.
Duranso says he has a stage 1 injury and anticipates being out for one week.
According to Physioworks, “ [recovery time] is quite variable depending on your specific injury.”
“It’s the nature of football,” Greg Malling, head coach of AHS football said.
Filling in for Duranso in the meantime will be junior Jake Risch.
Both Duranso and Malling say they have a high degree of confidence in Risch’s ability to lead the team to a victory against Waukesha West this Friday at Waukesha West.
The injury has not affected Duranso’s outlook on footbal. Duranso says, “I love it.”
Duranso breaks the steriotypical mold of a high school quarterback superstar with his personable and easy going attitude.
