The Final Push

The 2013-2014 school year for Arrowhead High School is coming to a close for its students. Seniors graduate on Saturday, June 7th at 7:00pm on the football field. Freshmen, sophomores, and juniors end the school year on Friday, June 13th.

Senior Myra Garlid said, “I can’t wait to graduate. I’m really excited to go to college and just have summer break. It’s a time to relax and have fun without homework, tests, or quizzes to worry about.”

Senior final exams take place on Thursday, June 5th and Friday, June 6th. Freshmen, sophomores, and juniors take final exams on Wednesday June 11th, Thursday June 12th, and Friday June 13th.

Senior Jake Coumans said, “The only thing I’m not really looking forward to are the final exams. Most of my exams are already out of the way since they were AP classes, but I still have some tough classes I need to worry about.”

Classes, like Zoology, cram to fit in the required information, test, quizzes, and labs for their course. For example, Zoology has a quiz Friday day, a test Tuesday, and the final Thursday.

Senior Nick Sorensen said, “I’m feeling the pressure. My classes are really pounding in the information. It’s a total cram session. ‘Only one more week’ I tell myself.”

AP classes are also cramming projects, essays, and labs into the curriculum before the end of the year. For example AP European History has a 6-7 page research paper due on May 30th, AP Macro Economics has a 1-2 page analysis paper due May 30th, and AP Chemistry has two separate labs and lab reports due by June 4th.

Garlid said, “Yes, I am feeling pressure and stress. I know summer is soon and we’ll be able to relax but I still have a ton of work to do and studying and even some late work I still need to finish and turn in. It’s just a lot.”
