On Friday, October 3rd, Taylor Swift dropped her highly anticipated 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl. It features 12 songs: “The Fate of Ophelia,” “Elizabeth Taylor,” “Opalite,” “Father Figure,” “Oldest Daughter,” “Ruin the Friendship,” “Actually Romantic,” “Wi$h List,” “Wood,” “Canceled!” “Honey,” and “The Life of a Showgirl” featuring Sabrina Carpenter.
The new album was announced on August 11th on her website, Instagram, and in a teaser for her fiancé, Travis Kelce’s podcast, New Heights.
Students have a variety of opinions on the new album. Some like the new pop direction while others prefer the vibes of her old music.
“This is my favorite newer Taylor Swift album because it’s showing her new era,” Gracie Runge, senior, said. “I liked the upbeat pop vibes, and “Opalite” is my favorite song so far.”
“I thought it was interesting that this is her first album ever-ish that didn’t have a sad song,” Avery Hill, senior, said. “I like how it sounded sonically, but I need time to absorb the lyrics before I pick a favorite song.”
