On August 28, pop artist Ariana Grande announced a tour for her 2024 album Eternal Sunshine. The tour entitled, The Eternal Sunshine Tour, will visit 10 cities from June 6 to August 23, 2026. Presale tickets went on sale September 9, and general tickets went on sale September 10. All dates sold out instantly. This left many fans disappointed because they could not get their hands on tickets. Now they might have to pay resale prices.
Ticket availability was a huge concern among fans because Grande is a massively successful artist. She currently has 76.4 million monthly listeners on Spotify. Most artists of this caliber such as Taylor Swift and Beyoncé perform stadium tours, but Grande is only playing arenas which have a much smaller capacity.
An average stadium capacity is 60,000 people, whereas the United Center in Chicago, the venue of the tour on August 3, 5, and 6, holds about 23,000 people. In addition to reduced venue capacity, concert fans are weary of ticket scalpers. Scalpers are people who buy up large amounts of tickets and re-sell them for much greater amounts than the original costs of the ticket.
I interviewed AHS Junior Claire Schmidt on her thoughts about the tour and her experience trying to get tickets.
“I’m excited to see performances of songs she has not performed live yet, especially songs from the deluxe Eternal Sunshine album. My experience trying to get tickets was definitely unsuccessful because both the pre-sale and the regular sale were during school hours,” Schmidt said.” It was impossible for me to get the tickets myself. I know three people who were unsuccessful and no one who was successful. The resale tickets are ridiculously expensive, even for nosebleeds.”
It is safe to say that Ariana Grande’s tour will be a success. Hopefully all of Grande’s fans will have the opportunity to see the artist in person.
