The 2024-2025 school year for Arrowhead High School brought numerous changes. These changes included the new block schedule and resource period.
The school year’s most controversial change among students and teachers was the block schedule. The new schedule included four 80-minute classes every day, as opposed to ten 40-minute classes every day. The block schedule was supposed to provide teachers with more flexibility with class time, but some students criticized the lack of having core classes every day. Other students preferred the block schedule though, as it only had 4 classes per day and allows for more in-depth learning.
Even though many students were supportive of the schedule changes, one thing that has been a problem for them is passing time between classes. With passing time being only eight minutes, students find themselves struggling to make it to class on time when traveling between campuses.
A less controversial and more helpful change this year brought was resource period. Resource period has proven to be a valuable resource for many students. It provides time for students to ask teachers questions, socialize, and work on homework before the school day begins.
Arrowhead Principal Mr. Kurth sent out an email to students with a survey about the changes that 2024-2025 brought, and one question asked when students would preferably have resource. The options were keeping it the same, after first hour, opposite of lunch, and at the end of the day. This suggests that Arrowhead may be considering switching when the resource period is held next year.
This year has been a unique blend of fun and challenges, bringing us together in unexpected and meaningful ways. For our seniors, this period marks the end of one chapter and the beginning of another as they prepare to venture into college or post-high school employment.
