Using Teacher Appreciation Week, I had the opportunity to interview my journalism teacher, Mr. Rauch, who has taught over the course of many years at Arrowhead Union High School. His passion for teaching and dedication to students made him an easy choice for my favorite teacher.
Mr. Rauch was inspired to teach by his parents – his father was a college professor, and his mom was a kindergarten teacher. Combined with his love for reading, writing, and coaching, “It all kind of fit together,” Rauch said.
When I asked about the most rewarding part of his job, Rauch said, “Working with kids, seeing growth, seeing development.” He had many memorable moments in his career. “Some good, some bad, but mostly good ones,” Rauch said. And even after years in the classroom, he still enjoys working with kids.
Beyond academics, Mr. Rauch hopes that his students leave his class as more responsible, thoughtful people. Through discussions and role modeling, he helps his students grow into better adults.
Mr. Rauch is by far one of my favorite teachers. He is funny, kind, and considerate. He always makes class enjoyable with his sense of humor, but he also shows genuine care for his students, making sure each feels heard and understood. His kindness creates a welcoming atmosphere.
Interviewing Mr. Rauch showed me how much impact a teacher can have. His commitment goes far beyond lessons.
