Breaking the Precedent
Yesterday, February 25, 2025, the current Press Secretary, Karoline Leavitt, announced that President Trump and his administration will pick which journalists, media outlets, and other voices will be allowed close access to the President.

“A select group of D.C based journalists should no longer have monopoly over the privilege of press access at the White House” Press Secretary Leavitt said. “By deciding which outlets make up the limited press pool on a day-to-day basis, the White House will be restoring power back to the American people.”
According to Democracy Now, The White House Correspondents’ Association condemned this change.
“This move tears at the independence of a free press in the United States,” The White House Correspondents’ Association said. “It suggests that the government will choose the journalists who cover the president.”
The Trump Administration has not released any additional information.
