GTA+V+Launches

This week marked the launch of Grand Theft Auto 5, by developer Rockstar Games. With costing over $300 million dollars to create, Grand Theft Auto 5 (GTA V) is set to be one of the biggest games this year. Featuring an open world, with many new gameplay mechanics, many students here at Arrowhead eagerly awaited its September 17th arrival.

Senior John Widish “pre-ordered GTA 5 several months ago.” He plans to pick it up the day of its release. Widish is excited for “every part of the game, from the massive map to the cars and guns.” He says he preordered the game in order to reserver his copy and get an in-game blimp airship.

Senior Jack Dambeck plans “to try it at a friends house” first. Commenting about how he isn’t that excited for the game.

GTA 5 is set in a Los Angeles look alike called Los Santos. The player takes control of the three protagonists, able to switch in between at any time. They slowly work through the storyline, in this installment the majority of missions are bank heists. Players have full run of the city and surrounding countryside, able to take over an assortment of planes, boats and cars.  On October 1st the multiplayer for GTA 5 launches. This will allow players to group together online into Gangs and free-roam together or participate in structured death matches.

In the first 24 hours after its release, Grand Theft Auto 5 made over $800 million. The game has had almost perfect scores in reviews. Metacritic gave it a 98/100, IGN giving a 10/10 and many others. Widish comments, “It is amazing, everything I hoped for.”

Dambeck tried it at a friends house and felt that “It was a lot better than I expected, I might even buy it myself.”

Grand Theft Auto 5 is out for Xbox 360 and PS3 for $59.99, there may be a PC version released at a later date.
