As Arrowhead’s fall sports wrap up, the winter sports start up and the students transition from one sport to another. The sports that are coming up are boys and girls basketball and boys and girls hockey. Along with those, boys swim and dive, girls gymnastics, wrestling and the Alpine ski teams all start up.

Senior Chris Kreitlow, says, “The boys basketball team will make it to the state semi-finals, mark my words.”

The boys basketball team just held tryouts and had a final roster of 15 players. They will start things off on Friday with Milwaukee Riverside, which will be played at Arrowhead at 7:30.

The boys basketball web page states, “Our team will be built with the concepts listed below as the cornerstones of our foundation. In order to make sure that the foundation is strong we must reinforce these concepts as much as possible. The repetition of these concepts will give the players the confidence they need to be successful. The following concepts are humility-understand who we are. Respect- learn from each circumstance. Unity- do not divide our house. Passion- do things the right way. Communication- talk to each other.”

The Warhawks are coming off of a state championship run where they fell short to end the season. Arrowhead lost seven seniors from last year, but look to make a run this season.

The girls basketball team is also starting up as they had tryouts already and played their first game last friday against Oak Creek. The girls lost their first game, however they look for another strong season to match last year.

According to the Arrowhead girls basketball web page, “The Arrowhead Girls Basketball Program views itself as an instrument of Arrowhead High School’s ‘One Team’ philosophy. Everything we do in our program will revolve around helping students feel that they are part of something bigger than self. Moreover, we strive to develop strong young women both physically and mentally. We will do this by teaching young people values and lifelong skill such as accountability, trust, community, acceptance of a role, persistence, leadership, confidence, persistence and performing under pressure.”

The boys and girls hockey teams have started up games and practices and look to make a strong push in the playoffs as the boys went to state last year. Along with that, gymnastics and wrestling started up as well as boys swim and dive and look to match their previous seasons. The ski team won state last year and are heavy favorites to win again this year.

Wrestling looks for another good season as they have most of their team returning for another year. Their website says, “In the past thirteen years, the Warhawk wrestling team has become a Classic 8 Conference power crowning 62 conference champions and claiming conference tournament titles in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2010. 74 Warhawk grapplers have advanced to the WIAA Individual State Tournament with 42 claiming medals, 20 State finalists and 12 Individual State Champions. The Warhawks advanced to the WIAA State Team Tournament in 2004 – 2008, 2011 & 2012. They were a semi-finalist team in ’04, ’06 and ’08 and in 2005 and 2011, they were the WIAA State Runner-up.”
