Single Status this Valentine’s Day
Valentine’s Day has come and gone this 2016 school year — how did Arrowhead students spend it?
Senior Maddie Jorgensen said this Valentine’s Day was her first one spent with someone special: “This was my first Valentine’s [Day] where I wasn’t single, but it really wasn’t much different than a regular date with my boyfriend. We had a lot of fun.”
Jorgensen said that to celebrate, her and her boyfriend went out to breakfast and then to the Milwaukee Public Museum instead of having a traditional Valentine’s Day dinner.
“We went to the Machine Shed for breakfast,” said Jorgensen, “And then to the Museum. But there was a pretty long wait for both, because we [certainly] weren’t the only ones to have that idea.”
Most Valentine’s Day couples will also exchange gifts on this Hallmark Holiday, and Jorgensen and her significant other are no different.
“I got him some brand new shoes and made him some chocolate covered oreos,” Jorgensen said, “And then he got me some roses, a really soft blanket, and season one of my favorite show.”
But not all Arrowhead seniors had someone to celebrate with on this romantic holiday, but that doesn’t mean they missed out.
“My mom and I went to see How to be Single,” said senior Nicole Hospel, “Then later, we went to my grandparents to see the dogs they always babysit for. I’m obsessed with them and really wanted to see them. Then we just went home and chilled out for the rest of the day.”
Hospel says she also received a gift certificate to get her nails done, a Starbucks gift card, a small box of chocolates, a little bag of lindor chocolates, and heart candies from her mother this Valentine’s Day.
However Hospel says her Valentine’s Day experience was different than the last two Valentine’s Days when she had a boyfriend to spend it with.
“[It sort of] sucks seeing all these couples in person and posting pictures of each other, it makes me sad,” said Hospel, “Especially because last year I had someone to spend it with, but this year I just spent it with my mom.”
Hospel says Valentine’s Day is only fun if she has someone to spend it with, otherwise it will, “Just rub it in your face that you’re single.”
Jorgensen says that Valentine’s Day is a great day to spend with your significant other, but that, “You shouldn’t wait for this one day of the year to dedicate a day to just being with them.”
