What Are Students Holiday Plans?
Thanksgiving Day is a national holiday celebrated in Canada and the United States as a day of giving thanks for the blessing of the harvest and of the preceding year. It is celebrated on the second Monday of October in Canada and on the fourth Thursday of November in the United States. This year, thanksgiving in America is on November 26th.
Thanksgiving has its historical roots in religious and cultural traditions and has long been celebrated.
Arrowhead senior Henry Cordle says he is asking for “more expensive” gifts.
Arrowhead senior Taylor Radtke is asking “more expensive to medium priced gifts.”
Arrowhead senior Lauren Overstreet said, “I’d say [I’m asking for] more expensive” gifts.
All three agreed that expensive is a price range starting at $50 and including everything above.
So what are these gifts that the seniors are asking for?
Cordle wants “money and subs.” Subs are big speakers with the base boosted. Subs can price from $400, to $2,000.
“I want to put them in my car so I can jam out,” says Cordle.
Arrowhead Senior Nicole Hospel says, “Well, I’m getting a parka. I want some winter boots, but I might want them later like for my birthday instead. I also want leggings and sweatshirt.”
Hospel also says, “Well, the parka is expensive and the boots are like $80. The leggings are like $20 and I want a soft sweater that’s like a Northface one.”
Radtke says she is asking for “Lulu lemon leggings, a jam box, uggs, money that I’m going to save for college, and I’ll probably get other small stuff too.”
While Overstreet is asking “a trip to St. Louis, Missouri.”
“I don’t ask for anything, because I’m not self-centered,” Deweerdt says. But he said he wants, “probably a GoPro hero4…I want it to take cool pictures of myself snowboarding.”
Black Friday is great for getting good deals on gifts. It’s also a good time to “people watch” like Radtke says she will be doing.
Radtke says she is also going “just like the mall and Target.”
“I’m [going to] go to Best Buy, just to shop for myself,” says Cordle.
Deweerdt is “going to Aspen Colorado…I’m really excited to just go back to my home town and hopefully see some old friends. I’m [going to] be going snowboarding so that should be fun. I’ll be back in Wisconsin for Christmas, though.”
Hospel says, “For Christmas, we are having [a] Christmas eve [celebration] at my house with my Dad’s side of the family and then on Christmas day, we are going to my grandma’s house with my mom’s side of the family. But my family isn’t divorced.”
Overstreet says she will be “going to my grandma’s house…I’m mostly excited to eat all the food.”
Radtke says she will be “working and going to my grandma’s house on Christmas eve…I even signed up to work too, because I love the money.”
Christmas is a time to get a break from school, see your family, and eat lots of food.
“I’m excited for 2016. I want to start the year off right and be a better person. And I’m also going to be 18, finally,” says Cordle.
“I can’t wait to eat all the food, mostly for the turkey,” says Overstreet.
Radtke says she’s mostly excited for “just getting time off of school. I’ll be able to get more hours at Starbucks and get more money than I normally do in a week.”
“For Christmas I’m excited to see my family and spend time with my cousins,” says Hospel.
