And unlike most haunted hikes, a waiver must be signed before entering subjecting attendees to the contact with any of the volunteers for the Hill Has Eyes or whatever equipment the haunted hike has in store.
However senior at Arrowhead, Gracie Brookes, suspects the waiver was part of the hype. “The waiver made it seem like it was going to be a lot scarier. Like it says [the volunteers] can touch you to freak you out, but they mostly left us alone the whole time.”
The Hill Has Eyes starts it’s haunt with a march where attendees are forced to wear hoods to cover their faces called Hooded. Hooded lets attendees experience a trailer park turned Military “quarantine zone” rampant with mutated hillbillies and their need for hunger.
According to legend, soldiers required anybody approaching the gate at the entrance to be hooded to prevent them from knowing how to escape, combining confined spaces and claustrophobia with the dark mysterious woods.
The website says that attendees risk being, “Hooded like a criminal and queued up like cattle, you’’ll be marched to the gates of unspeakable horror.”
Part two is called Failed Escape, a continuum of the previous horrors at Hooded. There, participants will be locked inside an old junkyard at the mercy of more mutant cannibals. Be sure to look out for a man called The One with Many Faces. Legend says he peeled away his own face as a result of the toxic waste and makes a new one each year by tearing at the faces of his victims.
The One with Many Faces will be watching you, maybe even disguised as an old scarecrow. From there, you are welcomed by Junkyard Ray in his infested auto salvage yard, to be eaten or to be played with or maybe to escape with your life.
The next haunted attraction is Hunger Hollow. Butchered human flesh of the victims are displayed. With this haunted location, you don’t want to come in first and you don’t want to be last or else you’ll be part of their special meal.
“Assuming you’re lucky enough not to be an appetizer yourself. Don’t be dessert though,” the website says. “There is no escape from the haunted woods of Hunger Hollow. To enter is to become like them, forfeiting your humanity either willingly or by force. All souls are offered freely to The Demon and all exits lead to his realm.”
Perhaps the most anticipated part of The Hills is the Scare Lift. According legend, and the official website, “The restless dead still operate the Scare Lift, pulling you into the horror of the Demon’s realm.”
This haunted location describes the winter of 1973 and how 13 skiers lost their lives in a horrible ski lift accident, but only 12 bodies were ever found. The unexplained freak accident has left rumors and speculations surrounding the Ski Hill Ghost. An urban legend to some, but at this haunted location, you’ll get to say for yourself. As the website says,“There’s more to be afraid of than heights.”
The final and newest addition to the Hills Has Eyes is CARNIvore, the devil’s carnival. The carnival features a freak show with the demonic carnies such as homicidal Siamese twins, fire breathing freaks, and even the spawn of Satan. At this funhouse, they’ll toy with the mind with chaos and claustrophobia, featuring one shocking surprise.
“Embrace the freak inside and become one of us. Inside the CARNIvore, pain brings so much joy!” the online description said.
Once you escape the Carnival, the journey is over. But don’t get too relieved yet.
The official and foreboding websites says, “You might laugh at yourself or your friends for being scared. You were never really in any danger, were you? But even after you leave, they’re still watching. Just because you’re outside doesn’t mean you’ve escaped. You will always belong to them. The Hill will always be there, and The Hill Has Eyes.”
Despite her doubts, Brookes still had this to say, “It was still a really cool set up. I’d definitely go again with a bigger group.”
