Will Arrowhead’s Football Team Go to State Four Years in a Row?
Arrowhead’s Football team stands undefeated in the 2015 season.
On October 2nd, 2015, Arrowhead defeated Kettle Moraine with a score of 34-14 on Arrowhead’s own turf.
But Kettle Moraine is not the only school to be put in such a position by Arrowhead — this year, Waukesha North, Mukwonago, and Hudson High School were all defeated by Arrowhead at away games.
And with just four home games this fall, Arrowhead didn’t hesitate to bring their best on their own territory for Friday Night Lights. And so this year, the team has beaten Homestead with a score of 28-14, Waukesha West with 37-7, and Catholic Memorial with a 23-0 score.
Arrowhead’s latest victory against Kettle Moraine leaves the victories and defeats tally at 7-0. This Friday, October 9th, 2015, at 7:00 pm, is Senior Night and Arrowhead will be having its fourth home game against Waukesha South.
The gators — Arrowhead students who rally the student section — have determined the theme to be Pink Out for Breast Cancer Awareness month. The Gators have also announced that Arrowhead will dress in orange as well in honor of a Waukesha South student who recently died of leukemia.
After Senior Night, there will be only one game left in the season before playoffs. The playoffs will be a total of four games, including state.
Even with Arrowhead’s undefeated streak, senior football player Michael Foulkrod owed the success of the team to the coach’s great leadership.
“I think Arrowhead’s success in the past is really because we’ve had such great coaches and just the tradition of legacy. And this year we had Coach Logi’s high power defence and Coach Malling’s high power offense. That’s what really determines the outcome of each game,” Foulkrod says.
Foulkrod also says his experience as part of Arrowhead’s football team includes much support throughout his high school experience.
“It’s really just been amazing all the support the community gives the team. We have fans that go to the coldest games, who go to all the away games. I know there are some fans that just come because they love football, even when they don’t have kids that go to Arrowhead or anything,” Foulkrod says.
Fellow football player and senior Will DeWeerdt says, “The entire Hartland community really just surrounds football and every home game everybody looks forward to Friday Night Lights and going to the games and just having a ball.”
DeWeerdt said going to the state game this year is a definite possibility.
DeWeerdt says, “Because we are undefeated, we have a good group of seniors, and a good coaching staff. We have all the right ingredients to go far this year.”
Foulkrod says, “The chances [of state] are very high because we have such a sound mental team. We’ve gone to state every year since I was a freshmen, and it would be really nice to go one last time. Just to say we’ve gone every year and to sort of go out on a high note.”
