Emilia Lopez, a sophomore at AHS, says, “I actually have never gotten super into Vampire Weekend until recently when my good friend asked me to come to with him to their upcoming concert. However for as long as I can remember, everytime I’ve heard them on the radio it makes me really happy because their music is so upbeat.”
Tickets first went on sale on March 21st at noon. Prices at that time were $40 online on various ticket websites and have gone up to around $50-$60 since then because of increased interest in the concert.
Ashley Lanzarotti, a sophomore at AHS, says, “I bought my tickets during presale at exactly 12:00. I bought two for my older sister and I to go when she comes back from college.”
Vampire Weekend and CULTS were originally going to be hosted at the Riverside Theater; however, tickets sold out in less than 10 minutes and in order to accommodate a larger audience, the show was moved to the larger venue of The BMO Harris Pavillion.
Lanzarotti says, “I would rather be at the Pabst to ensure good seating and an ability to hear the band. However, the BMO Harris is okay with me as well biggest its a bigger venue which means that they are finally gaining in popularity, so I’m happy for them in that regard.”
Their newest album. Modern Vampires Of The City, was released on May 14th, 2013. This album won them a Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album in 2014. Their highest ranking songs from this album are: “Diane Young,” “Step,” and “Unbelievers.” Their most performed songs from this tour thus far are: “Diane Young,” “Unbelievers,” “Cousins,” and “Hannah Hunt.”
Lopez says, “My favorite songs from their newest album are probably, ‘Hannah Hunt,’ ‘Step,’ and ‘Unbelievers.’ They all sound so different from their other music and it keeps it interesting to listen to.”
The concert is in less than two weeks and fans ecstatic.
Lanzarotti says, “I am most excited for Ezra Koenig’s face. Also, the entirety of the band and their performance. Chris Tomson is a fantastic drummer and the fact that they incorporate jazz instruments into their music is amazing. They are amazing.”
