According to BBC News, there was recently a malware leak posted on wikileaks that supposedly revealed hack tools and malware tools the CIA was using on the public. The FBI and CIA are now launching an investigation to find out who found these materials and who posted them on wikileaks. As of now, the CIA has refused to comment on the leaks happening.

The CIA spokesperson said in a conference that the leaks are very damaging for the public to see. It is also incredibly damaging to the CIA agents against terrorism. This can make the CIA slightly vulnerable to whoever might plan on hacking their systems.

There are also claims or the government using malware on citizens phones which was also posted on wikileaks. This can cause conflict to rise in the public. The malware is claimed to track terrorist type movements online, but could also be used to monitor any camera or microphone on computers and cell phones.

“It’s scary to think that the government is able to tap into almost any phone or computer at any time says Colt Stone, lake country local. “Someone is in really big trouble for leaking this information. It almost sounds like a minor case of Edward snowden.”

The CIA as well as the FBI are working together with this investigation to find the person who leaked the information in the first place. The hacking tools that were leaked could be very dangerous in the wrongs hands.

Wikileaks also posted that companies such as Apple, Microsoft and Samsung are not happy with this information. They had no idea they were vulnerable and that their customers could be monitored by the government

“I don’t really think the government should be able to use malware to tap into any cells phone,” says Stone. “They should at least have a cause or a reason for going through someone’s personal information. It really seems like the government is invading on our privacy and possibly our rights to privacy as well because they are able to search things without our permission or really without us knowing.”

The FBI is involved in finding the person who leaked the information and the CIA is trying to cover its tracks and make things right with the public. There can be a big conflict now that people know they can be monitored at almost anytime as well as hacked by the government. This is a wikileaks has stated that this conflict is almost like the case with Edward Snowden when he leaked information and millions of files to the public.

“I feel like most people should have already known about this, That is what snowden did to warn us about malware us long ago,” says Lake county local, Jessica Swanson. “I think people should be more aware and that the information should really be available to the public. I really think there is some sort of corruption because the government is technically infringing our rights to privacy and that would be unconstitutional.

According to ZD NET, the CIA doesn’t know if the leak was caused internally from someone in the CIA or if it was outside of the agency from an external use. WikiLeaks had 8,000 documents containing information about the CIA hacking units as well as the CIA cyber intelligence units. The CIA director, Michael Hayden quoted that such disclosures have, “made my country and my country’s friends less safe.”
