Packers defeat Giants in Wild Card “Blowout”

The Green Bay Packers beat the New York Giants 38-13, on Sunday, January 8th in the Wild Card Round of the NFL playoffs. The game score doesn’t show how competitive the game was. This was the Packers first playoff win at Lambeau in two years.

The week started off with controversy. The Giants wide receivers went to Miami on Monday led by Odell Beckham and Victor Cruz. That was met with criticism by the media.

The Giants have beaten the Packers twice at Lambeau during the playoffs in the past ten years. They won the NFC Championship in 2007 and in the divisional round in 2011. The Giants won the Super Bowl in both years.

The game started on Sunday with the Giants scoring first on back to back field goals. The Packers were up 7-6 with six seconds left in the game. Aaron Rodgers stepped back and threw the ball 65 yards down the field to Randall Cobb as time expired in the first half. It’s the third Hail Mary Rogers has completed in 13 months. According to NFL research, no quarterback has three Hail Mary completions in their entire Career.

After the Hail Mary, the Packers went on a 24-7 scoring run in the second half as they beat the Giants 38-13, knocking the Giants out of the playoffs.

After the game, Odell Beckham had a breakdown in the Giants locker room. The Giants receiver was found banging his head against the wall, and throwing his fist into the wall, leaving a five inch hole. Odell came to the podium talking about the disappointing performance and if the trip to Miami had any effect on the game.

“It sounds typical to me. At the end of the day, I went through practice, had zero drops, zero missed assignments. There was nothing to connect  [Miami] to this game and how we played and executed. There is just nothing in the world. It’s just not realistic,” Beckham said during his postgame interview. “I think it did a great job at creating distractions for us. And it’s unfortunate. That is just the way this world is. There is just no way you can connect something that happened seven days ago to this game.”

The Packers didn’t escape the game unscaved. Pro Bowl Alternate Jordy Nelson fractured two of his ribs and will most likely be out against the Dallas Cowboys. Running back Ty Montgomery and Linebacker Blake Martinez has knee injuries and both are questionable next week.

The Packers will play the Cowboys at Texas Stadium on Sunday, January 15th, at Texas Stadium. The Giants will go back to New York to clean up their lockers as their season is over.
