The Annual Wisconsin State Fair is Back and Better Than Ever

The Annual Wisconsin State Fair is Back and Better Than Ever

Summer provides many opportunities to have a good time and Wisconsin State Fair is one of them.

The fair will be open from August 4th to 14th. From Sunday to Thursday it’s open from 8 am to 11 pm. On Fridays and Saturdays it will be open from 8 am to 12 am. On August 14th, the final Sunday, it will be open from 8 am to 10 pm.

Admission prices vary from different ages. Children ages 5 and under get in for free, for children ages 6 to 11 admission costs $6, ages 12 to 59 get in for $12, and for military workers, veterans, and people ages 60 and over get in for $7.

State Fair is known for its unique food and this year they’ve come back with more. They have cookies on sticks, bacon flavored popcorn balls, and cookies and cream donuts. One of the most unique foods being introduced to the state fair is the chili-mac bottom pizza. The pizza is deep-fried mac n’ cheese with beef chili and cheddar cheese on it.

On August 9th it’s Crazy Grazin’ Day. On this day more than 50 vendors at state fair offer reduced prices for a smaller portion of food. For example, at Pitch’s BBQ and Miss Katie’s Diner, half a basket of onion rings are priced at $3.75 when a normal sized basket is priced at $5.50. The full menu for this special day is on the Wisconsin State Fair website.

One thing to look out for is the different music acts are performing at state fair including Shawn Mendes and Halestorm. Tickets are up for sale and you can see the rest of the lineup online.

State Fair also includes many different farm animals like cows, horses, and pigs for you to enjoy. One of the popular events including animals is pig racing, but if you aren’t up for pig racing you can go to animal showings or other events.

Rachel Lilly, a frequent Wisconsin State Fair goer, said “Every year I go to state fair with family and friends to watch the pig racing so I’m looking forward to keep the tradition going.”

Another cool thing State Fair offers is a day camp for people of all ages. There are several camps to choose from including Animal Career Exploration Day Camp, Fair Performer Fantasy Day Camp, Individual Day Camp, and Group Day Camp. The price, date, time, and age limit depends on which camp is chosen. The restrigration price includes fair admission, a t-shirt, backpack, camp supplies, snacks, and lunch. Registration is open until July 15th on the State Fair website.

The Animal Career Exploration Day Camp is for 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students. The camp provides hands on experience with animal care. The participants will also meet professionals in animal care, like veterinarians. This camp takes place on August 11th from 8 am to 4:30 pm and the registration price is $30.

Fair Performer Fantasy Day Camp takes place on August 9th from 8 am to 6 pm and costs $30. This camp is made for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. Participants will go through dance and voice workshops and talk to entertainment professionals.

For $15 dollars, students in 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th can participate in an Individual Day Camp on August 5th or August 6th. The camp lasts from 8 am to 3:30 pm. The participants will go through a tour of the Discovery Barnyard and visit the DNR Park.

On August 12th from 9 am to 3:30 pm all ages can participate in the Group Day Camp for $8, not including lunch. Participants go with a group of friends and self-guide themselves to different activities and exhibits at the fair.

So gather up your friends and family for a day full of music, wacky food, animals, and excitement.
